QATAR World Cup 2022

Round of 16

France continue their World Cup title defence against Poland in the Round of 16. Les Bleus have historically done well in this fixture, winning eight of 16 matches, including the most recent in 2011. However, the Poles won their only previous World Cup meeting, a 3-2 success in 1982.

After beating Australia and Denmark in their opening two games, France qualified with a game to spare. They were beaten by Tunisia last time out, but it was a heavily rotated 11 with many stars getting a rest. One of those was Kylian Mbappe, who has been on fire so far, with three goals and one assist. Olivier Giroud has also hit form with two goals, and he could become France’s outright all-time leading scorer with a goal in this one – so keep an eye on his Anytime Goal Scorer Odds.

Poland are in the Round of 16 for the first time since 1986 after creeping through Group C via goal difference. Czesław Michniewicz’s team picked up four points from three games, with their only win a 2-0 success against Saudi Arabia. Robert Lewandowski scored his first-ever World Cup goal in that victory, and they will need him in top form in this one. The Barcelona striker has an excellent overall record for Poland, hitting 77 goals in 137 appearances.

France have not lost a World Cup Round of 16 match since 1934. Can they extend that run at the Al Thumama Stadium? Bet on France v Poland at the World Cup on the BetVictor Sportsbook.
