The 32nd meeting between England and France looks set to be a cracker. The Three Lions have the upper hand in the overall head-to-head with 17 wins to France’s nine. However, Les Bleus have dominated since the turn of the millennium, winning four of seven matches, including a 3-2 victory in the most recent encounter in 2017.  

England have been irresistible so far and are the tournament’s leading scorers (12). Gareth Southgate’s side have also been tight at the back, keeping three successive clean sheets against the USA, Wales and Senegal. Defending champions France are making a solid case for a second successive title. Didier Deschamps’ men have produced impressive displays to defeat Australia, Denmark and Poland, with their only slip-up being a defeat against Tunisia (when they had a heavily rotated XI). France’s strongest area is in attack, with Kylian Mbappe playing a starring role with five goals. Olivier Giroud has also been in imperious form – he has three goals to his name and recently became France’s all-time leading scorer, ahead of Thierry Henry.
