This fixture first got going in January 1959, when the two clubs were drawn against each other in the FA Cup. It was Sheffield United who were successful in that encounter, running out 2-0 winners at Bramall Lane. Since then, there has been little to separate the pair, with the head-to-head extremely close.

Crystal Palace did manage to win when they faced The Blades in the First Division play-off final in 1997 though. Indeed, The Eagles claimed a 1-0 victory in front of 64,383 spectators at Wembley, with David Hopkin netting the winner in the 90th minute.
