Sheffield Wednesday endured a horrendous start to their rivalry with Preston North End, losing each of their first three meetings. The first was an FA Cup match in 1888 which The Owls lost 3-1, before they then suffered 4-1 and 5-0 defeats in the 1892/93 First Division season.The head-to-head has evened up since and there is little to separate the pair. Wednesday have now enjoyed their fair share of victories against The Lilywhites, including 5-1 successes in 1925 and 1961. However, they also went on a run of just one win in 11 against North End between 2000 and 2007, losing seven in that period.
