Overview

This Roses rivalry began in 1912, when Preston North End and Huddersfield Town played out a 1-1 draw in the Second Division. Since then they have played many times, with the head-to-head very even.

Two of the most significant matches between the two came in the FA Cup, as they faced off in a couple of finals. The first was in 1922 and it was The Terriers who lifted the trophy after a William Smith strike gave them a 1-0 win. 16 years later they met in the showpiece again, with The Lilywhites getting revenge when George Mutch netted a 119th minute penalty to claim a 1-0 win.
