Two of England’s most successful clubs, Liverpool vs Chelsea has thrown up a number of memorable games in recent years. The 2005 Champions League semi-final classic will always be remembered for Luis Garcia’s ‘ghost goal’ which helped Liverpool reach the final before going on to win the trophy. It was the Rafael Benitez v Jose Mourinho clashes which really sparked one of English football’s most bitter recent conflicts.Chelsea dominated for a few years under Mourinho whilst Liverpool went through a fairly quiet period by their own standards. However it’s Liverpool who have progressed most in the last few seasons, claiming their first ever Premier League title (and their 19th top-flight championship overall) in 2019/20. But with Abramovich’s backing Chelsea will always be a threat and are poised to challenge Liverpool at the top once more.
