This rivalry first got going in the 1991/92 season, when both clubs were in the Segunda Division B. That year there was little to separate them, as Villarreal secured a 2-1 victory at the Estadio de la Cerámica while Getafe won 1-0 at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.Since then the pair have climbed the Spanish football ladder, and within that time have played plenty of matches. It is Villarreal who have had the better of the head-to-head though. Indeed, they even went seven matches without defeat against Azulones between 1999 and 2006, winning six of those fixtures.
