This fixture was first played in the 1928/29 season. It was Genoa who got off to the perfect start as they beat Fiorentina 2-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. They then backed that up with a 7-0 hammering at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris a few months later.However, since then La Viola have taken charge of this rivalry. Indeed, they have a comfortable lead in the head-to-head and even won 1-0 when the two clubs contested the Coppa Italia final in 1940. Added to that, the Florence-based outfit also put together an impressive 13-match unbeaten run against Genoa between 2010-2016.
