The Derby de l’Atlantique is one of French football’s fiercest rivalries, pitting Bordeaux against Nantes. The name of the game comes from the two clubs’ proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Les Girondins have an advantage in the head-to-head. They even put together a run of just one defeat in nine matches against their rivals between 1983-1987.However, in one of the biggest games between the pair it was Les Canaris who emerged victorious. The two contested the 1999/2000 Trophée des Champions match, with Nantes securing a 1-0 success at the Stade de la Licorne.
