1899 Hoffenheim didn’t make it to the topflight of German football until 2008/09. They might have lost 2-1 in their very first match in Bavaria against the mighty Bayern Munich, but they did hold Die Bayern to a 2-2 draw at home later in the season. They even followed that up with another draw (1-1) the following season.

But Bayern are Bayern, and of course they’ve enjoyed some big wins in this one. They left Hoffenheim with a 6-0 rout in 2019/20 – Philippe Coutinho grabbed a brace. Hoffenheim made their own headlines with a 4-1 win early in 2020/21 – Andrej Kramaric scored a brace of his own.
