Barcelona first played Getafe when the team from Madrid finally made it to the big-time of Spanish football in 2004/05. As you’d expect, Barca did the double over the newly promoted side in the first two seasons of their topflight status.It was in 2006/07 when we saw history being made, however. In the first leg of a Copa del Rey semi-final on the 18th April 2007, a 19-year-old Lionel Messi scored that goal. A carbon copy of Diego Maradona’s from the World Cup in 1986. Nothing in this fixture has quite lived up to that again. And probably never will.
