This rivalry first got going in the 1969/70 season. Both clubs were in the Second Division at the time, and it was Watford who made a perfect start. The Hornets beat Aston Villa 3-0 at home, before clinching a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture. The first Premier League meeting between the two came in 1999. Villa enjoyed success on that occasion – they won 1-0 at Vicarage Road. Ashley Young is a name that will be familiar to both sets of fans.
