Ever since the early 1980s, Monaco have dominated in this fixture. Indeed, Les Monégasques put together an incredible 16-match unbeaten run against Rennes between 1983 and 1997, winning 13 times during that period. They have also enjoyed many cup successes against Les Rennais, including a 7-0 hammering in the Coupe de la Ligue in 2016 and a 9-8 penalty shootout triumph in the same competition in 2019.Fans of both clubs will be familiar with the name Guy Lacombe. He played for Rennes between 1985-86 before going on to become their manager in 2007. The Frenchman then left the club to become Monaco boss in 2009.
