OverviewThis rivalry first got going in the 1946/47 Serie A season. It was Sampdoria who won the initial meeting between the pair, claiming a 2-1 success at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. AC Milan got their revenge a few months later with a 1-0 triumph at the San Siro.
These two clubs have played each other in several finals down the years. The first was in the 1984/85 Coppa Italia and it was the Blucerchiati who lifted the trophy after a 3-1 aggregate victory.
