This rivalry got going in the 1928/29 season, when both clubs were competing in the Divisione Nazionale. Their initial encounter finished as a 1-1 draw, before Roma earned the first victory with a 1-0 success at the San Siro later in the campaign.However, since then it is AC Milan who have been the dominant force in this fixture. Indeed, they have a sizeable lead in the head-to-head and even enjoyed a 20-match unbeaten run against the Giallorossi between 1970-1979. The Rossoneri also came out on top when the two clubs contested the Coppa Italia final in 2003, winning 6-3 on aggregate.
