Established in 1903, the Light Heavyweight division saw its first ever champion in the shape of Jack Root when he edged out Kid McCoy in a ten round decision. The creation of the division can be credited to Root’s promoter Lou Houseman, who set up the fight in the first place. The division has a maximum weight limit of 175lb (79.38kg / 12st 7lb), while the entry weight is set to 168lb (76.2kg / 12st).
