Originally founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks, ‘The Irons’ – or ‘The Hammers’ – didn’t become known as West Ham United until five years later. Having spent the majority of their history playing at Upton Park, the club moved to the former Olympic Stadium in the 2016/17 season. Known for their famous academy, the club has produced such greats as Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick and Jermaine Defoe.
