Founded as Sporting Friends Club on 23rd January 1921, Alaves were the Segunda Division’s first club to gain promotion to La Liga in the 1929–30 season. The club are Basque Country’s third most successful team after Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad and play their home games in the 19,800-seater Mendizorrotza Stadium.
