Founded in 1974, it took a while until the Washington Capitals started to achieve success in the NHL. Indeed, it wasn’t until they were bought by Ted Leonsis in 1999 that their fortunes started to change. After that, they began drafting several star players, including Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby and John Carlson. The franchise then went on to win the Presidents’ Trophy in 2010, 2016 and 2017, before finally clinching the Stanley Cup for the first time in 2018.
