These two franchises made history in 1938. They became the first NHL teams to play games in Europe - they played a nine-game series in London and Paris. Since then, this is a fixture that’s had many memorable moments. That includes five Stanley Cup Finals in 1952, 1954, 1955, 1956, and 1966. The Detroit Red Wings won the first three series, while the Montreal Canadiens won the latter two. But it's the Canadiens who have a sizeable lead in the overall head-to-head. They even beat Detroit nine times in a row between 2017-2019.
