Overview

The Calgary Flames vs the Vancouver Canucks is an NHL fixture that was first played in 1972. It was the Flames, then known as the Atlanta Flames, who won the initial meeting 2-1. Since then, they’ve maintained a lead in the head-to-head, although the Canucks did enjoy a nine-game winning streak between 2013-14. One of the most famous games played between these two came in the 1989 Stanley Cup play-offs. With the series level at 3-3, a decider was needed to split them. The Flames won a tight game 4-3 in overtime, with goaltender Mike Vernon’s performance key to success.
