Founded in 1949 as the Edmonton Eskimos, the team was renamed the Edmonton Elks in 2020. The rebrand followed prolonged engagement with the public to settle on a new, more inclusive team name, one that better represented Canada’s indigenous population and modern Canadian values in general.
The Elks play in the West Division of the CFL, with their home games taking place at The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium. The Double-E won their first Grey Cup title in 1954. Since then they’ve enjoyed lots of success. They achieved a three-peat between 1954 and 1956 and won five straight Grey Cups between 1978 and 1982. Many famous names have pulled on the famous green and gold uniform. These include Canadian Football Hall of Famers Gizmo Williams, Danny Kepley, Danny Bass, and Willie Pless.
