Overview

This is a historical MLB rivalry. It dates back to when the San Francisco Giants were the New York Giants. During that time, they played what is known as “the most controversial game in baseball history”. The Merkle’s Boner incident led to the Chicago Cubs winning a game they were on the cusp of losing. The win handed the Cubs the NL pennant ahead of the Giants. In 1989, the two met for the first time in the National League Championship Series. It was the Giants who came out on top this time - they secured a 4-1 win. The Cubs got some revenge in 2016 though. They won 3-1 when the pair locked horns in the National League Division Series.
