The Pittsburgh Pirates were founded in 1882 and were initially part of the American Association. They were first called Pittsburgh Allegheny before adopting their current name in 1891. Bucs participated in the inaugural World Series in 1903, losing 5-3 against the Boston Americans. They didn’t have to wait long for their first championship though, which they won in 1905. Since 2001, the franchise has played home games at PNC Park and they now compete in the National League Central Division.
