Overview

This is a rivalry that got going in the 1980s. Back then, the two franchises were competing in the American League East Division. At the time both were strong contenders for the division title. The Detroit Tigers tended to have the edge though. They topped the regular season standings in 1984 and 1987, with the Toronto Blue Jays second both times. In 1998, the Tigers moved to the AL Central which saw the rivalry ease. David Price is a name that will be familiar to fans of both teams. The pitcher played for the Tigers between 2014 and 2015 before joining the Blue Jays.
