Overview

These two franchises first played each other in 1962. The New York Mets enjoyed the stronger start, winning each of their first four games. But the Chicago Cubs responded with a five-game winning streak later in the year. In 1969 the rivalry picked up as they battled for supremacy in the National League Eastern Division. The Cubs held a 17 ½ game lead going into the final quarter of the season. But they were caught by the Mets who went on to win the World Series. Their first postseason meeting came in 2015 in the National League Championship Series. It was the Mets who again came out on top. They dominated the series and swept the Cubs to win the NL pennant.
