The Boston Red Sox were established in 1901 as one of the American League’s eight charter franchises. They enjoyed lots of initial success, winning five World Series titles between 1903-1918. However, after selling Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920 they went on to endure an 86-year championship drought, dubbed the ‘Curse of the Bambino’. The curse was finally ended when the Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2004 World Series. The team play their home games at Fenway Park.
